Catwalk trends autumn/winter 2019

Soft monotone

Monotone makeup was seen all over the catwalk, from smoky neutrals on eyes and cheeks and lips. Using one shade on all makes for a soft monotone look. Mauve is a perfect shade for transitioning from warm to cooler temperatures as it feels more dramatic than summery shades, but without the deep fall tones. It is also a very flattering shade for a variety of skin tones.

 Rich red lips

Velvety matte lips paired with polished skin and minimal makeup. The red lipstick ranging from vibrant red shades as seen at Fendi to a darker Burgundy shades. For a less dramatic look, dab some lipstick on your fingers before applying it by dabbing it lightly on your lips. For a ultra matte effect, press lips with powder after application. The key to this look is a lipstick high in pigment.

Dewy lips

Another lip trend for fall is glossy lips in skin shades. These lips are perfect to pair with a more dramatic eye or use together with the monotone trends.

Smoky Eyes

Smokey eyes never really goes out of style and there are so many ways of adapting this look for both day and night. On the catwalk this season there was play between a blend of sophisticated and rock-chick enhanced with a flick of black liner. For a strong impact, leave complexion neutral and tie hair your hair back.

Natural beauty

Skincare is always in! Of course, but this season natural beauty is making a comeback. Minimal makeup teamed with baby-fresh glow. This low key look is great to team with a subtle fresh blush.

Playful Eyes

Eyes was centre stage at many shows, some designer had us thinking back to 70s disco scenes with a glitter renaissance.  Other designers were playing with graphic eye makeup, with a ‘retro-meets-future’ kind of feel. There were Twiggy liners, colourful liners, black and white lines and metallic lashes to name a few.

Experimental eye make-up is a staple at fashion week, and this season the feel was retro-meets-futuristic. At Dior, anime-like Twiggy liner was the focus, while floating flicks were seen at numerous shows and at Giambattista Valli models’ eyes were framed with black and white lines before metallic silver lashes were attached to the lower lids.

Featured blush

A subtle blush is great all year round, but for autumn the trend is to achieve the kind of flush you get when out in cold fresh air. On the catwalk this season, it was often paired with pink lips for a fresh outdoorsy look.
